Achsah was Caleb’s daughter. She was the prize given to Othniel for capturing the city of Kiriath-Sepher. She was a bold young woman. Possibly as a wedding present she asked her father for some land. Caleb gave that to her. The she came back and in verse 15 she asked for something else: “Give me also springs of water,” she said. And he did. He gave her both the upper and lower springs. The land was abundant and there for the taking. Othniel did that. There were abundant blessings available and as Achsah demonstrated one but need to ask.

The equivalent New Testament context is surely Matthew 7 where Jesus says “Ask and it will be given to you. Knock and it will be opened to you. Seek and you shall find.”

The world is full of abundant blessings for all those willing to step out in faith and obedience to God’s direction for their lives. The abundant blessings are simply waiting for those whose faith and obedience are sufficient to seize the opportunities and to ask, seek, and knock.
