Exodus 29:20 explains how the blood of the dedication sacrifice was to be applied to various body parts of the priest. “..and take part of its blood and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron and on the tips of the right ears of his sons, and on the thumbs of their right hands and on the great toes of their right feet.”

This blood was used to dedicate various human behaviors to God’s work. The ear was sanctified by the blood so that the Lord’s servant would be ever able to hear God’s Word. The thumb of the right hand was sanctified by the blood so that the Lord’s servant would be ever ready to do God’s work. The big toe of the right foot was sanctified by the blood so that the Lord’ servant would walk in a manner worthy of the Lord’s calling.

The New Testament uses similar language with those whose faith has been placed in the sacrificial blood of Christ. Through our faith in the blood of Jesus Christ, we are annointed to walk worthy of our calling(Ephesians 4:1). We were annointed to the good works God has chosen for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). Jesus also told his followers in John 8:47 “The one who is from God listens to God’s words.”

Paul informs us that through Christ’s sacrifice we have be redeemed. In 1 Corinthians 6:20, he writes, “you are not your own for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
