Each of the plagues of Egypt were demonstrations of how Moses’ God was the true God, whereas Pharaoh’s gods were all false. Thus the cobras of Pharaoh’s magicians were swallowed by Moses’ snake. The Nile, the blood stream of Osiris, an Egyptian god, actually became blood at the command of Moses’ God. The frogs, a fertility god in Egypt, were so fertile they polluted the land at the command of Moses’ God.

The third plague, sometimes called gnats, was actually an infestation of lice on all life in Egypt. According to Gleig the gods of Egypt could not be approached by anyone with infectious insects. Thus, for the duration of this plague there were no sacrifices, no worship, no one in the temples of any of the gods of Egypt. Thus, the only God that could be worshipped was the one true God. That’s why even Pharaoh’s magician say at this plague, “this must be the finger of God.”

The world may align its armies against you. It may malign you, oppress you, abuse you, and enslave you and even force its gods upon you, but God wants you to remember that “greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” Max Lucado says, “it isn’t the circumstance that matters, it’s God in the circumstance.”

Remember what Isaiah said, “the Lord longs to be gracious to you. He rises to show you compassion, for the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him.” Isaiah 30:18
