In the book of proverbs there is something for everyone. The opening chapter explains the purpose of the book. God gave us this wonderful book so we’ll know how to live well and right, So we’ll understand what life means and where it’s going, So we will have “knowledge and purpose” in life. Solomon is trying to pass on to us the Wisdom his father David passed on to him. He calls us his children as he exhorts us to reflect on God’s laws.

The book of Proverbs is a manual for living. It will teach the inexperienced the ropes and give our young people a grasp on reality. But there’s something here also for seasoned men and women. Let us never forget that there is still a thing or two for the experienced to learn.

For the next couple of days, we’ll be reading this wonderful book! As we read begin each session with prayer because as the first chapter says, all wisdom “must start with God – the first step in learning is bowing down to God.”

Lord, “Here I am to worship! Here I am to bow down! Here I am to say that you’re my God.”
