In 2Samuel 16, Shimei strikes out at King David with words and stones. I expect the words hurt more than the stones. He said something like, He cursed him and called him names, one of which was “you worthless murderer.” He blamed David for Saul’s death even though he was miles away when Saul committed suicide. Abishai, David’s General, offered to remove Shimei’s head for David! But David said no.

Never was David’s greatness seen in a brighter light. He accepted the abuse and cursing from this man without retaliating entrusting his case to God. At his left and at his right rode his mighty men of war, but David did not deploy the troops to take a personal revenge. Instead, he trusted the results to God!

Always a good policy! “Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord, I will repay.”
