When we think of the “promised land” as being God’s plan for Israel – and the “Holy city” the high point of dwelling in (abiding in) the place God has made for you (pre-ordained for you) (Ps 47 calls it our “inheritance”), we find these psalms saying something to the effect: “When I’m in your will, abiding where you want me, fulfilling your purpose for my life – I can’t do anything but sing! It’s the best place in the world for me! I can’t stop thanking you, Lord, because your plan for me (a land of milk & honey!) is so much better than anything I would have planned for myself! All my songs are about you – your love, your goodness to me, and the joy you’ve filled my life with! “Sing songs to God, sing out! Sing to our King, sing praise! He’s Lord over earth, so sing your best songs to God.”TM I guess this is why the writer exhorts us, “Applause, everyone. Bravo, bravissimo! Shout God-songs at the top of your lungs!”TM
