Like the prodigal son, I too wander away from the love and protection of God’s arms. I want to do it “My way.” “I know what I want, and I want it now!” “It’s my life, and I’ll do what I want.” (etc.) Isaiah is right “all of us, like wayward sheep want to eat out of the forbidden pasture.” Then the consequences come! I’m empty! “Then I remember all the works of your hands and think about how great you are..”NLT I cry out! “…don’t haul me into court; not a person alive will be acquitted there.”TM I’m pleading for mercy not justice! I know I’ve deserted you – but, Lord, I’m back! I’m stretching “..out my hands to you as thirsty for you as a desert thirsty for rain.” Help, I need somebody! Help, not just anybody! Help, you know I need someone….! That someone is You, God! “Point out the road I must travel; I’m all ears and eyes before you… teach me how to live to please you.. lead me by your blessed Spirit into cleared and level pasture land.”TM I want to get back into the road which is your plan and purpose for my life! Whenever I stray, I’m empty, lonely, and downright miserable. Your plan and purpose for my life is the only place I’ll find peace and contentment.
“Lord teach me to reflect on the work of your hands when I get depressed. Teach me to do thy will.”JT
Have your devotions in the morning. Psalm 143:8 “Let me hear your unfailing love for me in the morning.”NLT
