The world we live in can seem exceptionally cruel and violent at times. Evil is everywhere when you look for it… and pops up a lot when you’re not! As we have already learned in previous psalms, when we encounter injustice and evil we can dump it all on God. We can tell him how angry we are at those who do evil and ask him to take care of it. “All they do is think up new ways to be bad…. they practice the sharp rhetoric of hate and hurt, speak venomous words that maim and kill.” Violence is the
way to resolve every issue. Any one in their way, even innocent
children, are liable to get hurt. I’m afraid for myself as well. “…God, protect me when the fighting breaks out! don’t let the wicked have their way.. don’t give them an inch.”TM If it was up to me, Lord, “Let them drown in their own verbal poison… let God bury them alive in crevasses…”TM But even in a world filled with evil & injustice, I can live in peace without fear because “I know God is on the side of victims… (he cares) for the rights of the poor… good people are secure in his presence”TM no matter what rages in the world around them. Sigh!
