Since God is always available when we need Him we don’t have to be afraid of anything. If a volcano explodes and melts a mountain, so what? If an earthquake comes and sinks a city, it’s all right! If a hurricane causes havoc, we don’t have to worry. “Even if the world blows up…”LB we don’t have to be afraid because God is on our side and ever ready to help us, defend us, and fight for us. So…… God says directly to us….”…Calm down, and learn that I am God,”CEV or “Be still and know that I am God,”NIV, or “stand silent.”LB In other words God is telling us “relax, I’ve got everything under control!”
Isn’t that a wonderful thought for a Tuesday! Keep it with you and “calm down…” God has things well in hand.
Looking at Psalm 40 as a whole, I believe part of David’s intended communication was this: Whenever I go my own way instead of following God’s revealed will for my life, I get myself into incredible messes (Literally slimy pits!). The messes are usually so bad, I can’t get out of them by myself. (too muddy for feet, too sloppy for hands) And I find myself all alone with no one who can help me. That’s when I “repent”, I tell God I’m sorry for going astray. He hears me, forgives, and then He gets me out of the messes I’ve made in my life. He gives me a new start, with new direction and new purpose in my life. I’m so filled with joy then, I sing a new song. The new song is different. Instead of singing, “I don’t care what you say, this is my life,” or “Don’t fence me in,” or “It’s my life, I can do what I waaant,” or “I gotta be me,” or “I did it my way,” Now I sing songs like “I did it YAHWEH”. (the Hebrew personal name for God). And everything has turned out right!!! “You Lord God have done many wonderful things, and you have planned marvelous things for us.”CEV
He is so good!
