I’ve been working on the idea of God having a personal plan and purpose for each of us. With this truth in mind the psalms are beginning to take on new meaning. Notice how Psalm 25 talks about God’s plan.
First you have to notice that Psalm 25 is an acrostic in Hebrew. Each verse begins with a different letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Aleph, Bet, Gimel, all the way through the 22 letters. So, acrostics are biblical. (I have been using them frequently in sermon preparation.)
“Show me the path where I should walk, O Lord; point out the right road for me to follow.”NLT You have a plan for me, I want to discover it! Show me, Lord the plan that you have for my life. Teach me the way that you want me to go. Guide me every step of the way into your plan for my life. (I know that only in that path will there be happiness, significance, and meaning.) I know if I search your word, I’ll find it. “Lead me by your truth and teach me…”NLT
Forgive me Lord, for seeking to find happiness in life by going my own way and pursuing my OWN plan for my life. Because I know that you are good (and always have my best
interest foremost in mind) you will forgive my rebellion and you will again show me the plan you have for my life and help me find my footing once again. “Forgive the rebellious sins of my youth..”NLT
If I admit the world’s values (Pleasure, possessions, and
prestige) do not bring fulfillment, if I humble myself under this truth, you will instruct me in your plan for my life. You will show me again which way to go.
The results of pursuing your plan for my life is that you will make my life’s ways pleasant and fruitful, because you are loving to those who seek you. And we can depend on you under all circumstances.
Again, Lord I ask you to forgive me for seeking fulfillment in
life outside of your plan for me, my waywardness – my going astray from your plan has been great. I fear (deeply respect) you Lord. I give you the highest priority in my life, because that’s what worship means. When I do that you will show me your plan for my life. I will enjoy prosperity then. If you have first place in my life you will confide in me your personal plan for my life. You will make clear your precepts for me. (See verses 7-14)NLT
With my eyes focused fast on your plan for my life – you will
protect me from all dangers, enemies, strife, hurt, loneliness and any other trouble – and ultimately you will give meaning and purpose to my life.
WOW! “if you seek Him with all your heart, you will find him.” And implied, he will give you the desires of your heart and make all your ways successful. Or better, make all your dreams come true!
