This Psalm is a messianic Psalm and beautifully portrays the mocking, beating, and death of Jesus Christ for the sins of the world. Although never to the extent he did, all Christians, as they follow the Lord, experience those times when they feel God has forsaken them.
“God, God . . . my God! Why did you dump me miles from nowhere? Doubled up with pain, I call to God all the day long. No answer. Nothing.”TM
I remember all the stories of how you answered the prayers of others so miraculously. But not me! “…Here I am, a nothing—an earthworm, something to step on, to squash.”TM
I don’t understand why you are leaving me to go through this trial alone! You have always been with me before. “…Since the moment of birth you’ve been my God. Then you moved far away and trouble moved in next-door.”TM I just feel like, “I’m a bucket kicked over and spilled…I’m dry as a bone…”TM I feel like a “bag of bones in a cage, stared at by every passerby.”TM I don’t know what to think about all this, but “if you don’t show up soon, I’m done for—gored by the bulls, meat for the lions.”TM
But, you will save me in the end. I know it! When I get through this trial, “here’s the story I’ll tell my friends…He has never let you down, never looked the other way when you were being kicked around. He has never wandered off to do his own thing; he has been right there, listening.”TM Yes, Lord, just as you were there sharing the pain with your only son on the cross, you are right there with me through it all also. Just as you raised Jesus up from the dead to glorify him, you will do that for me. I know because you never change.
The message is Jesus Christ, crucified, died, buried and RESURRECTED! And so will be all who believe in him! The result of this good news will be that “From the four corners of the earth people are coming to their senses, are running back to God. Long-lost families are falling on their faces before him. God has taken charge; from now on he has the last word. Our children and their children will get in on this as the word is passed along from parent to child. Babies not yet conceived will hear the good news…”TM Jesus Save, Jesus Saves!
