I want to be like this writer! He challenges God: “Go ahead, examine me from inside out, surprise me in the middle of the night—You’ll find I’m just what I say I am.”TM If God surprised you in the middle of the night, that is, came when you weren’t expecting it, what would he find?
This writer really means the Lord’s Prayer, “thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” “I’m not trying to get my way in the world’s way. I’m trying to get your way, your Word’s way.”TM I want what you want, Lord! This psalmist sounds like Barbara Streisand, “You and me against the world.” Lord, let’s do it together. You may just as well let me join you God! I’m not leaving! I want to be part of your team! “I’m staying on your trail; I’m putting one foot in front of the other. I’m not giving up.”TM
I know you will answer! I don’t understand why you haven’t answered already, but I’m convinced you will reach down your hand and get me out of this trouble as you have always done in the past. “I call to you, God, because I’m sure of an answer. So—answer! Bend your ear! Listen sharp! Paint grace-graffiti on the fences; take in your frightened children who are running from the neighborhood bullies straight to you.”TM
Troubles are all around me! My demon enemies beat me up one side and down the other – heartache, depression, loneliness, weariness…. “Their hearts are hard as nails, their mouths blast hot air. They are after me, nipping my heels, determined to bring me down, lions ready to rip me apart, young lions poised to pounce.”TM
Only YOU…. Can make the darkness bright! You can “Break them! By your sword, free me from their clutches.”TM Only you can do it and you do it “barehanded, God…”TM
“And me? I plan on looking you full in the face. When I get up, I’ll see your full stature and live heaven on earth.”TM
With God, there is always a little bit of “heaven on earth.”
