Exodus 26:31 instructs Israel to make a veil to seperate the Holy Place from the Most Holy place. “And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen. It shall be made with cherubim skillfully worked into it.”

Look at the colors. Notice that angels were to be embroidered on the veil. God’s presence was to be adorned with beauty. God’s very creation is adorned with items whose only purpose is to make beautiful. Most flowers are inedible but bring beauty in appearance and fragrance.

We send flowers to the sick and the grieving in order to cheer them up. Beauty lifts our hearts, encourages our spirits, inspires our emotions and fills us with joy. How wonderfully illustrative of God’s presence.

That’s why the Psalmist sings, “you make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forever more.” (Psalm 16:11)
