God reigns over all the affairs of humanity from His throne in heaven. Nothing escapes His notice. No evil deed goes unseen, no injustice goes unmeasured, and no act of faithfulness is forgotten. One day, every person—great or small, famous or unknown—will stand before Him, the King and Judge of all the earth, and give an account. The psalmist proclaims this truth throughout the Psalms, declaring in one verse, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness.” God’s rule is eternal. His authority is absolute. His judgments are always right.

Human justice, though necessary, is often flawed. Courts can be corrupted by money, influence, fear, or prejudice. But not God. He is totally objective in His judgments. Joseph Addison once wrote, “Justice discards party, friendship, and kindred, and is therefore represented as blind.” That is why Lady Justice is often portrayed wearing a blindfold—she does not see faces, reputations, or social status. She judges impartially. Yet even she is limited. But God—He is justice perfected. Though unseen, He is not silent. Though patient, He is not passive. He hears every word, knows every motive, and understands every hidden secret of the heart. His verdicts are never wrong. His truth is never misapplied. And when He pronounces judgment, there is no higher court to which anyone can appeal. God’s court is final.

There was once a man who was the prime suspect in a brutal murder. Everyone knew he was guilty, but because of political connections, he was never arrested or tried. He seemed to have escaped justice. But years later, while driving along an interstate highway, he became drowsy and pulled over to rest. As he slept, a truck loaded with heavy logs passed by. Suddenly, the chain holding the logs snapped. They spilled off the truck and crashed down on top of the man’s car—killing him instantly. Was it a tragic accident? Or was it an example of divine justice accomplishing what human justice failed to do? We cannot say for certain—but it does provoke thought. One thing, however, is absolutely certain: a person may escape the judgment of men, but no one escapes the justice of God. The Bible declares, “For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.” When that day comes, excuses will vanish, secrets will be exposed, and truth will prevail. And from His verdict, there will be no appeal.
