It’s true that we could not count the many, many blessings God has poured out upon us in our Country. We indeed above all people in the world have been blessed. The poorest of us are seen as the richest in some countries and you and I inherited it. It is the result of God’s blessing and the work and lives of many who came before us. I’ve sometimes wondered, “Why me?” Lord, why wasn’t I born in a third world poverty stricken country? Have you ever wondered why you? Why did God bless you so much?

Psalm 105 closes with an answer. I’ve never put this together in quite this way before. It says, “So he brought his people out of Egypt with joy, his chosen ones with rejoicing. He gave his people the lands of pagan nations, and they harvested crops that others had planted. All this happened so they would follow his decrees and obey his instructions.”

God showed us His incredible love so that we’d obey Him. It’s all about obedience motivated out of love. Ray Steadman wrote, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments, not the other way around. Love makes obedience easy. It is the delight of love to do what the loved one desires when the heart grows dull and obedience is difficult, the proper response of the Christian is not to grit his teeth and tough it out, but to remember who it is that asks this of him and the for his sake, to do it.

“My life passes as swiftly as the evening shadows. I am withering away like grass. But you, O Lord, will sit on your throne forever. Your fame will endure to every generation.” (Psalm 102:11-12)
