Othniel is the first of 13 judges who follow the same cycle. The cycle that is repeated 13 times in Judges goes like this: A tribe would sin against God. They would become slaves! They would make supplication, and God would send a savior (Judge) to deliver them. Sin, slavery, supplication and salvation. Over and over again! You wonder how God could put up with them for 400 years! Over and Over!

I have to ask the same question of myself. My life might be characterized by the same cycles. I sin, I suffer, I make supplication, and God saves me! Over and Over! I’m so glad His “loving kindnesses” endure forever.

Lord, help me in the up-cycles to remain faithful with a wholehearted commitment to Love you by obeying and serving!
