Leviticus begins with instructions regarding the offerings to be made on the altar. There are five different kinds of offerings. The first is the “Burnt Offering.”

The burnt offering is sometimes called the “whole burnt offering.” It might be first because it symbolizes a “total commitment” to God. It’s the only offering in which the entire animal is burned up on the altar.

The offerer is saying what Bobby Richardson, former New York Yankee second baseman said in his prayer at a meeting of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He offered a prayer that is a classic in brevity and poignancy: “Dear God, Your will, nothing more, nothing less, nothing else. Amen.”
