There are lots of Egyptians in my life: Things that want to keep me as a slave, things that will pursue me the moment I try to break away. I’m often afraid of them and feel that the effort to escape from them isn’t worth it. I can just settle for the life I have and not have deal with the conflict it will produce within me when I try to escape from this habit or that sin.

But God wants more than anything else to set us free. Galatians 5:13 begins, “for you have been called to live in freedom…” God truly wants to lead us out of Egypt into a promised land. He wants to do that because he knows that it’s a much better life. He describes it in Numbers 14. He says, “It’s a rich land flowing with milk and honey…” That’s so much better than the land of slavery where you must “slave” for you daily rations.

He wants us to be free and He is willing to help you. No, much, much more! He’s willing to deliver you, just as he did Israel. When they finally escaped from Egypt, Pharaoh rousted up his army to follow them and bring them back. When the people of Israel saw them coming they were afraid. Exodus 14:13-14 (NLT) says, “But Moses told the people, Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”

Hey, stand still! Trust God! He’s anxious to fight for you and defeat your enemies! Just walk away from them in faith, stay calm, watch what God will do for you!
